Dorian Patchin is an Internet Start-up veteran with abundant experience
in Product Management, Product Marketing, and Business Development. Most recently, Dorian was the Director of Strategic Relations at Webs.com, the leader
in DIY website creation and hosting with more than 50 million sites
created. Webs recently was acquired by Vistaprint for $117 million. He also held roles in product management and partner
integration at Webs.
Currently, Dorian provides product/project management consulting services for the creation and integration of web-enabled products and services. Clients include web marketing company, MarketHardware.com as well as a music venue owner/promoter in DC, IMP Productions (9:30 Club, Merriweather Post Pavilion, The Anthem)
Dorian continues to be a consultant with Winegame, an app that easily allows you to host and/or participate in blind winetastings on your phone. As a host, you take a picture of your wines and the app automagically creates a set of multiple choice questions about each wine. Your tasters then select answer in trying to guess each wine (getting points along the way). It really levels the playing field when wine tasting whether you're a novice, an expert or somewhere in between. Dorian has been doing occasional bizdev and brand ambassador duties (and he's an investor).
Dorian also is a partner in FoolHardy Vintners, a Walla Walla based Washington State wine company creating top of the line Cabernet Sauvignon. Dorian's high school friend Dan Sogg (10 years at Wine Spectator as a writer/editor), and Dan's college friend, Jonathan Edelman (involved in Père et Fils, Burgundy and Pied á Terre, Sonoma), started FoolHardy in 2016. The inaugural release of FoolHardy Cabernet and FH Cabernet Blend was April 1, 2019 as one would expect. Dorian works on the website, e-commerce, d-to-c, distribution, harvest, blending and more.
Dorian continues to participate in various angel rounds in successful startups with a focus on the wine/entertainment/Internet world.
Prior to joining Webs, Dorian was Consulting VP of Operations at Transactis, a service providing e-commerce capabilities within html email. Before that, he held the position of VP of Product Management &
Executive Producer for Winetasting.com’s Internet division in Napa, a
provider of e-commerce services to wineries.
Previously, Dorian was Vice
President and General Manager of NBC Internet's XOOM.com division in
San Francisco. He headed up the XOOM.com business
unit, with an emphasis on creating opportunities for ecommerce and
advertising through membership generation via distribution of free viral
web products and services. He started his employment at XOOM.com in
1998 prior to XOOM.com’s IPO and subsequent merger with NBC and
Snap.com.
Dorian's experience extends to fundraising for start-ups as well. He participated as a partner in Andojo, a $10
million Internet start-up angel fund with a number of successful start-ups that include Cafe Press and Vertical Response.
Dorian's background includes numerous Internet Start-ups
including Alexa Internet (bought by Amazon.com in early 1999) and
Freeloader, the first “Push Technology” software/service founded by Mark
Pincus (founder of Zynga). Other experience includes being part of the
launch team for the Washington Post’s first online endeavor as well as
researcher/archivist at the Washington Post.
Dorian holds a BA from Ohio Wesleyan University. He is an avid
competitor/fan of soccer, basketball, wine (especially California and Washington State Cabs),
